Registering for Self-Paced Courses

Registration may take place at any time during the semester and a student can complete the course work from two weeks to a maximum of three academic terms (approximately one year). Students with financial aid may be required to complete the coursework during the same semester in which they registered to avoid financial aid probation.  The Continuing Studies Registration Form must be completed and returned to Continuing Studies, who will then register students and notify their professors.

Materials:  Professors may use the student’s address and email information to explain course procedures. Directions also may be included with a packet containing a study guide and supplemental items such as a CD. Textbooks and course materials may be purchased through the MSUM Bookstore at 218-477-2285, or http://bookstore.mnstate.edu/

Billing for these courses is added to the regular MSUM billing. View or pay online at www.mnstate.edu/busoff or payment may be made at the time of registration.

Exams may be administered by a proctor, such as a professor, K-12 Administrator, or teacher at a local college or K12 school.  It is the student’s responsibility to locate a proctor whose position clearly identifies them as an appropriate proctor.

Drop Deadline: Tuition and fees for classes will ONLY be refunded for schedule changes made during the first seven days following self-paced course registration.

Withdrawal:  Semester withdrawal deadlines apply to the semester of registration.  A “W” will appear on the transcript and indicates withdrawal from a course after the drop deadline; no refunds are given. Academic Appeal can be filled to retroactively withdraw from a course (after the withdraw deadline has passed).

Grades:  If coursework is not completed in academic term enrolled, an “IP” grade (In Progress) will appear on the transcript until coursework has been completed and graded by the instructor, who will submit the official grade change.  If coursework is not completed by the end of three academic terms (unless otherwise noted), the "IP" grade will be changed to an “F” grade.

Credits earned by completing self-paced courses may be used to meet liberal studies or graduation requirements at MSUM when applied to the correct category.

Concordia or NDSU students must fill out a Continuing Studies Registration Form in order to register for a Continuing Studies course. Registration cannot be completed online or by tri-college registration. The tuition & fees for these courses need to be paid at MSU Moorhead. See registration form. Transfer your credits back to your home campus after grades are posted.
