DESCRIPTION

This course examines drugs of abuse and the impact of mind altering drugs and alcohol on the individual, family, and society. Intervention, detoxification, assessment, treatment programs and self-help support groups are examined.  Special emphasis will be placed on alcohol as the most frequently used and abused chemical.  The course is meant to be an overview of chemical dependency which will be useful to those involved or interested in dealing with chemical abusive or dependent persons. 

 

INSTRUCTOR

John Jensen M.Ed. is the author of Don't Be Taken Hostage: A Workbook To Help You Survive Your Adolescent, A Walk In The Woods, The Intervention Papers, and Jackie's Story. In addition to teaching in the Social Work department at Minnesota State University Moorhead, MN, he is the co-owner and clinical director of the Professional Resource Network, a private practice group providing consultation, assessment, training, and treatment services in Fargo, ND.
