This course explores how the Three Fires Anishinaabe People, the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Ottawa, use plants for food, in crafts to make objects, and as medicine to cure common ailments.  Throughout the course references are made to how other peoples use these same plants, including the Cree, Menomonee and other First Nation Peoples, as well as Pre-Christian and folk traditions of Europe and Asia.  American Indian plant knowledge is taught using traditional teaching stories, songs, lectures, and power-point presentations.  Hands-on experience of the plants is offered whenever possible to produce simple medicinal preparations and various arts.
