How to logon to D2L - Students

  • Click on the D2L Logon link: https://mnstate.ims.mnscu.edu
  • Your username is your MSUM ID number (with leading zeroes).
  • Your password is
    • your birthdate in the following format:
      yymmdd  i.e.  Feb. 6, 1983 is 830206
    • IF your birthday is not in your student database records, the password defaults to the
last six digits of your Social Security Number
    • If neither works, call or email:
      MSUM's Student Technology Team: (218) 477-2125
      Instructional Technology Services: (218) 477-2596 or d2l@mnstate.edu

  • At the first login:
    1. CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD in the My Password
settings on the main D2L page.  When you change your password
remember that the password is case sensitive and special characters ( : ? / &* , etc) should not be used.
    2. CHANGE YOUR EMAIL address in the E-Services Link on the MSUM Registration page
      • Open a new browser window (File/New). Click on Home, then E-Services
      • Login with your Dragon ID and PIN (Birthday: YYMMDD), select Account Management, and select Demographic Info.  Enter your current email address.  Click submit.  Return to the browser window showing D2L.  Your D2L email will update automatically overnight.  It does not work to change your email directly in D2L.

D2L Logon Trouble Shooting and Contacts for Help:

  1. On your first login your password is your birth date:  yymmdd
  2. Your password is case sensitive, i.e., 'PassWord' is not the same as 'PASSWORD' or 'password'!
  3. After five invalid logon attempts in a row your account will be locked for 60 minutes. You will not be able to logon until that timeout period has passed.
  4. In most cases students cannot access their course before the course begins. (Normally the first day of classes.)
  5. Course rosters are updated regularly through the last day that students can register for a class, students who drop a D2L course are not  removed from the D2L course roster,  an instructor must un-enroll  students who drop the course.
  6. If the user is still having problems or needs their account unlocked immediately they should call the Instructional Technology Department  at MSUM:
